The 2023 Acura NSX is a beloved sports car that’s getting a lot of attention for its performance specifications. Most car enthusiasts, though, aren’t fully aware of the model’s history. Learn how it all got started and what made it the high-performance vehicle it is today.

The Beginning

The Acura NSX was originally a concept model intended to be a more affordable alternative to rival sports cars. When the two-seater sports car was first released in 1989, it was the first mass-produced vehicle with an all-aluminum frame.

Under the hood, was a 3.0-liter V6 engine mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. Buyers also had the choice of a five-speed manual transmission.

The Second Iteration

The vehicle underwent enhancements in 1997 with the upgrade to a 3.2-liter V6 engine, and later some changes to the exterior design in 2002. The model was discontinued in 2005.

The Comeback

Plans to revive the model became public in 2008, with a planned second-generation release set for 2010. However, the market downturn in 2008 delayed the comeback, and the eventual re-release occurred in 2013. This model now had updated parts, including a 3.7-liter V6 engine paired with three electric motors, for a total output of 480 horsepower.
